Defense Minister In Israel Quits HIs Party, But Not the Government

Strange developments indeed in Israel, but one has to understand the complications of coalition governments. Read the story for details. The bottom line is that Ehud Barak, the Defense Minister in Netanyahu's government, will no longer be battered by his own Labor party that is pushing for more talks with the P.A. Netanyahu is a member of the Likud party and heads up the ruling coalition. With this change, Netanyahu considers the government has been strengthened to the 'right'.

The implications of course could be less support from the world, and more aggression from the P.A. and others. We'll need to watch this development and how it impacts peace and war in the region.
