Israel & US: Is This What Good Friends Do?

An interesting account in The Telegraph today (it's Monday there already). Lots of good speculation well worth reading. But what do we know for fact? Two things emerge.

First, Israel has not promised it will give the U.S. and Barack Obama an advance awareness of any attack it plans on Iran. Why should it? It can't trust Obama to help or worse still, do anything that would endanger the attack. God forbid he even had those thoughts.

Second, because Netanyahu won't give Obama that assurance, the U.S. has increased its intelligence spying on Israel.

Is either one of these behaviors what good friends do? I suggest not. I would conclude therefore that these guys are not good friends at all and they certainly can't count on each other. Any appearance of friendship is strictly politically motivated. And that is very dangerous.  Here's the account.  Judge for yourself.

Sarkozy Tries to Backtrack on Calling Israeli P.M. a Liar But So Far Is Failing Bittime.

The biggest problem with our world today is that the majority of our leaders are indeed what they call "others". Take a look at one of them trying to backtrack on his lying. Is there anyone out there that can actually be trusted? I am losing my faith in politicians. Oh, wait, I never really had a strong faith in politicians.

Israel Will Have To Go It Alone . . . or Will She?

I've read several articles lately on the Nuclear Arms issue involving Iran.  Let me cut to the chase for you.  Both Russia and the U.S. have warned Israel that attacking Iran would be a "very serious mistake" or that what would follow are "unpredictable consequences".  Just heard today that the U.K. are abstaining on the vote at the U.N. security council when it comes to the Palestinian membership and statehood issue.  Thanks Cameron, mighty British of you old chap.  And France is not a friend of Israel's given what their President recently was overheard calling Mr. Netanyahu.

By the way, if you missed it, Sarkozy called him a "liar".   So much for that international relationship.   Obama, in reply, implied Sarkozy should be thankful he doesn't have to deal with him -- Netanyahu -- as much as Obama does.   If it weren't for an upcoming presidential election to ensure his second term, I'm sure Obama would have gone as far as Sarkozy, if not further, in his criticism of Israel's leadership.  And it all makes sense from their point of view.  Israel is proving to be uncooperative in making Obama a hero.  But there's good reason for that.

While the world may see the pursuit of Middle East peace as still another war that needs to be settled, so life can go on; to Israel and to a certain extent, the Palestinians, it is much more.  But back to Iran.

The choices are simple:
1.  Do nothing.  Iran proceeds to acquire nuclear arms (capable of attacking Israel and elsewhere).
2.  Continue with sanctions as per current.  Iran proceeds to acquire nuclear arms.
3.  Increase sanctions but without Russia's cooperation as she has indicated she's not prepared to do so.  Iran proceeds to acquire nuclear arms.
4.  Israel attacks Iran's nuclear development sites by herself.  The Middle East becomes a war zone and then what happens is indeed unpredictable.  Iran proceeds to acquire nuclear arms (but it takes much  longer.)
5.  Israel and the United States and other Western countries get behind Israel and together they attack Iran and defeat its anti-Semitic government along with destroying its nuclear development sites.  Iran decides the pursuit of nuclear arms is not in its best interests.

Of course, the consequences and costs associated with any of these positions -- financially speaking, politically speaking, internationally-speaking, and most importantly in terms of human life and displacement and suffering, are indeed, colossal.

If you look at the five choices closely, you see they really break down into two groups:  The first three where there is no attack on Iran in an attempt to stop or greatly delay her progress to attain nuclear arms and the last two where a military effort is made to deter her progress and even stop it.

Clearly for many the risks of attacking are too high.  And I would agree.  However, the risks of not attacking are also great.  They may even be greater than the risks we had during the Cold War with Russia.  Why?  Because while Russians of the day had a desire to conquer us, they had a greater desire to survive themselves.  Radical Islamists have no such restraint.  It would be a bonus for them if they could die while pursuing jihad on the Americans and the Jews and the West.  Like Samson of the Bible they are prepared to go down with the destruction of the 'temple to a foreign god' in their desire to meet up with the virgins they've been promised.

To that add the fact that at least one leader in Iran (Ahmadinejad) is a wild card, to put it mildly, and you can see a potentially much greater risk if and when Iran does attain nuclear arms.  So what will we have then?  Well, to begin with start with radical fanaticism that wants to take over the world, coupled with a desire to erase an entire race (the Jewish one) from the face of the earth (not to mention Americans), add a crazy man, and a heavy dose of erroneous religious zeal, stir in the promise of the awaiting young virgins upon dying as a Muslim martyr, and top it off with the availability of nuclear weapons.   You were asking what do you have?   Well, as a minimum, you'll be a lot closer to Armageddon.  As a maximum, you'll have nothing --  because you won't exist.

Rethinking the situation, options 4 and 5 make some sense.  There's no political will or guts for option 5.  You're left with option 4 -- Israel goes it alone, again.   But I venture to say "she is not alone".  And as trite as it may sound, the fact remains that Jehovah- who has, for the people of the Book, always had all these names below, is STILL with them:

ELOHIM......Genesis 1:1, Psalm 19:1

meaning "God", a reference to God's power and might.

ADONAI......Malachi 1:6

meaning "Lord", a reference to the Lordship of God.

JEHOVAH--YAHWEH.....Genesis 2:4

a reference to God's divine salvation.

JEHOVAH-MACCADDESHEM.......Exodus 31:13

meaning "The Lord thy sanctifier"

JEHOVAH-ROHI......Psalm 23:1

meaning "The Lord my shepherd"

JEHOVAH-SHAMMAH.......Ezekiel 48:35

meaning "The Lord who is present"

JEHOVAH-RAPHA.........Exodus 15:26

meaning "The Lord our healer"

JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU......Jeremiah 23:6

Obama & Sarkozy Appear/Sound United Against Netanyahu

Thank God for technology bloopers or sometimes we'd never know the truth. Read this article and you'll know why guys like Julian Assange (who has nothing to do with this story) should not be imprisoned and charged, and why they are seen as heroes by millions.  The old adage that a politician cannot be trusted is so evidently demonstrated by both Sarkozy and Obama here.

Of course, in the U.S., this kind of exposure will further give wind to the factions in the Jewish votes.  And one thing is clear -- whatever Israel plans to do against any other country in order to defend itself, it must consider doing it alone.  And if by chance some countries decide to help it, that would be a bonus but not something they should count on.

The PA Clarify the Conditions for Not Going to the U.N.

My special thanks to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas who today clarified his conditions for withdrawing his bid for statehood recognition this September 20th. And by the way, there are three conditions, not two:
1. Israel accepts a two-state solution (while the P.A. don't have to accept a "Jewish" state, only an Israeli one).
2. The boundaries would be the 1967 ones.
3. Israel stops all Jewish settlement construction in the areas that would be part of the Palestinian statehood.

It's nice to know that some people can still dream in technicolor -- and no, I don't mean like Martin Luther King used to dream. This guy is out of his mind if he thinks Netanyahu will simply say, "yes, Mr. President; I'll do that later today."

And what does Netanyahu and Israel get in exchange:
1. PA won't go to the UN with their request; of course, if Israel accepts these conditions, it won't need to. But that's too obvious for politicians to figure out on their own. So they make the deal they propose sound so great.
2. A promise of peace going forward. Yeah, about as solid as the promise of a ceasefire this past week which was broken at least twice by the Palestinians. Thanks but no thanks.

Finally, notice this scenario on whether or not the United States threatened the PA with punitive measures if the PA pursued their goal to use the U.N. for statehood declaration. The US Consulate denies that. And the PA reinforces the fact that it is true -- the US did promise punitive action. So, either the Americans are lying or the PA is lying. So whom can we trust any more among these two players? Neither. We just have to wait and see what happens.

But I can assure you of this much -- it's very unlikely Israel will say, "hey, thank you so much; I thought you'd never offer that!" Take a look. We're now just 24 days away from the big item going to the big General Assembly.

Netanyahu OK with 1967 Borders As Basis For Talks Providing . . .

More moves by Natanyahu, coupled with a recent decision to require a dismantling of an Israeli settlement that shouldn't be where it is, are indicating a willingness to negotiate. But there are conditions still: first that the Palestinians withdraw their request to the United Nations to declare them a state and secondly, that they accept Israel as a Jewish State. Watch this unfold in the next month.

NETANYAHU WARNS about ISLAMIC RADICALS GOALS

Why do some people see it and some don't? Believe it or not, it can't be intelligence -- since there are very intelligent men and women in both camps. I believe that a scientific investigation if all the evidence were accepted by the investigators, there is no doubt that what Netanyahu is seriously concerned about is in fact the truth of the goals, and they are being achieved more and more each day. For that reason, I have come to the conclusion that all see it -- it's just that some totally ignore or pretend it's not there. And when I re-ask the 'why' question, over and over again until I get down to the simplest level -- I only come up with this possibility: "Man generally does all he can (or can't) to avoid the inevitable fact -- that there is a God, that there is a plan for this world, and that we need Him because we are sinners and cannot reunite with him on our own terms." Those concepts do not sit well with the self-made everyman who thinks "he is god". So, it is better to say, "all is well and it will all work out." Sorry, Netanyahu and some of us have news for you. Okay, all I heard on CNN yesterday was that Israel is being awfully quiet about all the events in Egypt. Well, that just changed. Here is the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressing exactly what is on his mind without any pulled punches. No one else is so brave. Netanyahu fears extremist regime in Egypt

But what is also interesting in this article is the show of friendship between two former enemies -- Germany and Israel. Six decades after the holocaust, these two countries have bonded very strongly together. I suppose as has the rest of the world with Germany. If they can do it, surely others could live in peace. But religion that is based on "killing all those that disagree with it" makes this pretty tough.

I heard many Egyptians on TV yelling "we hate Mubarak; because he supports the Jews; the Jews are our enemies; we hate Mubarak and we hate the Jews." What can you do under those circumstances? Do you really want to know . . . Well, the answer is . . .

Not much. You can't do anything. It's in God's hands. But you can't sit on your "butt" or "fanny" either. You need to act and do all you can to stem the tide.
