Obama wants to help Egypt even more (with American tax dollars) and faster.

Clearly this President is out of his mind, in my humble opinion. Even though Muslim Brotherhood has come out in strong support of Sharia Law, and totally spoken out against Israel, see my previous blog, Obama now wants to accelerate pace of US aid to Egypt. And why?

Because Egypt, the article in the link below says, is at a "critical stage in its uncertain transition away from autocratic rule." What's uncertain about it -- they've moved from Mubarak to Sharia and friends via the Muslim Brotherhood.

Obama is so eager to give Egypt money, he is taking aid aimed for other countries and redirecting it to Egypt. And all on the basis of a, get this, "hoped-for democratic evolution in Egypt". Give me a break. Aside from the elections, minorities in Egypt are being treated undemocratically. And when Sharia Law is fully established -- Christians and Jews watch out.

To Obama, it seems that Sharia Law Muslim Brotherhood Democracies are equivalent to western democracies and must be supported fully.

Now you know why he wants to take more money from America's rich -- it's not to help America's poor, it's to help establish more Muslim Democracies in the world. What a man.

Toronto's Municipal TaxiCab Driver College Muslims Get Islamic Prayer Room

Attention Torontonians: This is your city, your dollars -- so take a look what you're paying for -- taxes, utilities, security, etc.

I have already contacted the Mayor's office and they tell me they were totally broadsided by this early this morning. I have also written to them and told them I am a fan of the mayor's and have supported his decisions. But I need assurance that not one penny of tax dollars is going to this any longer and that not one moment of a city employee's time is spent providing this accommodation.

Please join me. Please see the video and pass it on to all your friends in Toronto and beyond.

Joseph's Twenty Percent Solution - Genesis 47:22-26

Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they lived off the allotment which Pharaoh gave them.  Therefore, they did not sell their land.  Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have today bought you and your land for Pharaoh; now, here is seed for you, and you may sow the land.  And at the harvest you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four fifths shall be your own for seed of the field and for your food and for those of your households and as food for your little ones.”  So they said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s slaves.”  And Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt valid to this day that Pharaoh should have the fifth; only the land of the priest did not become Pharaoh’s.

It appears that the heathen priests were exempt based on a previous arrangement with Pharaoh.  They had been endowed land on which to have temples for public worship.  Since they could not grow food on their land because of its use, Pharaoh provided the priests with food directly on an annual or other basis.  Thus, now at the time of the famine, it would have been inappropriate for Joseph to withhold that allowance from them and/or to charge them the tax he was about to charge all the rest.

And charge he did, requiring all Egyptians to pay one-fifth or 20% of their annual harvest back to Pharaoh who let them stay on the land and gave them the original seed to sow.  Of course, knowing the amount of taxes some of us pay now in North America especially, twenty percent sounds like a fair deal.  But then again who knows what kind of government-provided services they were getting.  I venture to say it was very few, if any, in those days.

Clearly, Joseph tells them they and their lands have been bought.  And to help them survive on the Pharaoh’s lands he is now allowing them to occupy, he gives them seed to sow in order to produce grain for food.  This way they and their little ones could live and survival was indeed the one thing these people needed now.

And how did the people respond?  They were ecstatic, seeing Joseph as a lifesaver.  They sought for continued favor in Joseph and the Pharaoh’s eyes and in turn they would willingly be their slaves.  When you and your family are about to die from starvation or any other form of extreme condition, losing all, becoming a slave, and paying back one-fifth of your harvest looks like a great deal.

The last sentence of the text does present some difficulties.  It appears to be saying that Joseph had the tax rule made into a law that all Egyptians would give the Pharaoh 20% of all their gains.  We read that this statute was “valid to this day”.  The reference here is to the day of the author, which we believe to be Moses many years after the events in Genesis took place.  This law was in effect more than three centuries later when Moses was born and on into his adulthood.  Even in 2011, before any new tax reforms would eventually come into play as a result of the recent Arab Spring revolution and takeover, income taxes in Egypt ranged from 0% to 20%, while corporations paid on average about 43.6%.  Some individuals seem to still be getting the deal Joseph had worked out thousands of years ago.

What is difficult to ascertain from this section is whether or not Joseph believed he was acting fairly and kindly, or whether he had succumbed to suppressing the people by taking their land and their freedom, and then taxing them in addition – for his own satisfaction or the greed of his boss.  A modern day equivalent of this may be a situation where someone with money and means goes into a third-world or developing country and offers work to the natives of the land.  Clearly he or she does not need to pay as much as he/she would have had to pay back in North America or Europe and that’s why they have moved their business to Africa, or South America, for example.  But how much should they pay and how should the new workers be treated?  I have seen terrible exploitation in Africa time and time again.  I have also seen good people loving their African employees and treating them as part of the family.

I can only hope that were God’s people are involved, the laborers are treated with dignity and fairness, as well as with the care and concern that God would have us show all mankind.

Whatever you think of this section of service, one thing we do know is that through it God made it possible for His people to survive.  And that’s how it is with God.

Tax & Run approach against Free Speech and Churches is the Ploy of the IRS.

Do you want to know how they're making things tough for Christians to even have a theological discussion among themselves? Take a look at this latest approach by America's IRS. They tax you and then when you spend money to fight the taxes in the courts, they give you your money back -- but won't change the rules.   Be careful what you say at church or on your church blog this morning!

Joseph Collects All The Money Within Egypt and Canaan - Genesis 47:13-14

Now there was no food in the land, because the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine.  And Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.

The great famine continued, but at least the family through which God would deliver His Covenant to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was now relocated in the land of Rameses in Egypt, close to Joseph and to all the stored grain.  It is interesting to note that the famine itself could not be avoided – it was where they were before in the land of Canaan and it was also where they are now in the land of Egypt.

Sometimes it seems we change our surroundings to escape our problems, but somehow they never go away, they’re still there.  I am sure you have experienced that.  But here’s the bottom line – it is better to face our problems from the spot that God wants us to be and where He has moved us to, then to face them from where we wanted to remain.  Your God, Who tells you to go, also goes with you.  And that makes all the difference.

So bad was the famine, that all the money that both Canaanites and Egyptians had, had been gathered by Joseph in exchange for grain he had been giving them during its early years.  And the text says that Joseph took all the money to Pharaoh’s house.

As I read these verses today I am also conscious of the fact we are only two-weeks into this fast-spreading and now worldwide protest phenomenon known as ‘Occupy Wall Street’.  The 99% of the world’s poor is out to reclaim the riches of the world from the 1% who are at the top of the wealth ladder.  This in turn allowed me to realize how the scriptures are indeed writings for all times and that our understanding, or at least our perception of what we read and how it is to be applied to us, varies based on what is going on in our times and what we personally have experienced.  Looking at these verses which simply relate facts of what happened thousands of years ago, would ignite different feelings in a Black American slave before the American Civil War, in an Arab Spring rebel fighting in Egypt to overthrow the country’s dictatorship, in a Occupy Wall Street protester, and in me.  But that is the beauty of God’s “love letter” to us.  We can all relate to it and we can all learn from it throughout the ages.

I can understand how frustrated the ordinary man, woman, and child must have felt when they realized that they had no more money and the famine’s end seemed to be nowhere in sight.  That seems to be the plight of the common man/woman today around the globe as he/she watches the economy tank and as no efforts of the world’s leaders appear to be able to address it or stop the free-fall.  People’s resources are dwindling, there’s a fear of losing one’s job, and even registered retirement plans are subject to being attacked by the government in an effort to raise more revenues and thus being eroded in value.  What happens next?  What more can we give?  In Greece alone where the population has been faced with continuous deductions in what they thought were assured earnings, along with greatly increased taxes, the suicide rate has risen by 40%.

Back in Egypt, the people had no more money.  So, what else could they be asked to surrender to Pharaoh in exchange for their needed bread, simply to survive?  Have you ever felt as if you were in the same spot?  Are you there now?  What more can you surrender to survive?

Those of us who truly know God, not just for what He can provide for us, but for Who He is, realize He has not changed, and only the circumstances of life have changed.  Our God is still the great I AM.  And He will see us through this next stage of world history.   Just as we’ll see in our study of the text that lies ahead He was about to do for the Israelites whom He had led to Egypt as part of His eternal plan.   Will you trust Him, and Him alone, for just that?  I hope so.

Many Greeks ARE Masters of the Tax Dodge.

First of all, I am Greek. Secondly, I never learned to "master tax-dodging" nor would I think of it. Having lived in Canada for the last 60 years, I have paid every cent of taxes I owed the Government.

And yes, contrary to what Rosie DiManno may lead you to think, many Greeks are honest. But clearly, they are out-numbered by the dishonest ones.

But DiManno's story has bigger problems than that -- not as a story, for she writes well and does her homework. No one can really find much fault with her content.

The problems are one thing she alludes to and one thing she stays totally clear of. She alludes to the government's either inability or unwillingness to actually "throw someone in jail" for evading taxes. That's a problem. They could have done it by now in order to signal to Greeks they mean business, but they have not and under the current economic situation, the problem is getting worse.

The second thing (the one which she does not mention) is the response that most Greeks would provide if they read her column: "Fair enough, but let's start with every Greek politician and senior bureaucrat. Recover the taxes from them, throw them in jail, and we'll see to it that we become honest." That's a bigger problem. I think the "troika" (EU inspectors) should be looking into that.

From my worldview, you can't lead people to the heights of honesty when they see you as a liar.

Remember the Congress SuperCommittee? It Can't Even Agree on How to Start.

Did the light bulb-heads (that's light as in 'not heavy', not as in 'source of illumination') in Congress really think they were solving something by coming up with a Super Committee to deal with increased taxes and decreased spending?

The truth is they were only stalling -- but goodness knows what for. This Committee can't even decide on "how" to start working. The deadline is around the corner. Watch this space for more 'developments' . . . for a lack of a better word.  You'll love the article in the link below.

Where there is no god-given Vision, the Committees will perish and take the people with them. (Wait, SOME of that sounds familiar -- at least it should to Christians.)

Fine Print of Obama's Jobs Bill Reduces Charitiable Donation Tax Deduction.

Many Americans now get $0.35 off their taxes for every $1 they give to charity. Obama is reducing that to $0.28 in his bill. It's in the fine print. Here are the details.

Seems that the parties can't even agree on how to collect the taxes that are already legal.  Take a look at what the Deal overshadowed today.  And, what an August recess may mean for the collection or lack of collection of tax dollars.  My, America is screwed up.

Summary of New U.S. Deal on Debt Negotiations as we know them now.

Here are the highlights as I understand them:

  1. Raise debt ceiling provisions through to end of 2012 as required, but most subject to deliberations of the congressional committee on spending cuts.
  2. Cut deficit immediately by $917 Billion.
  3. Cut deficit over next 10 years by a total of $18 Trillion by means to be proposed by the bipartisan congressional committee.
  4. This Committee must use current law(s) which includes expiration of all Bush tax cuts in 2013 for rich and a 50% reduction in the $1,000 child credit, and no adjustment to the Alternative Minimum Tax.
  5. If this Committee fails to agree on spending cuts by Thanksgiving for up to $1.5 Trillion, then $1.2 Trillion cuts will trigger automatically -- 1/2 to come from cuts in defense spending, and the rest primarily from non-defense discretionary spending, and some of it from entitlement program spending.
  6. Any cuts to Medicare that may be triggered will only impact the Providers and not the public who use the program.
  7. There is no tax reform mandatory in the deal, or for the Committee to consider.
  8. There is no net new revenue that will be considered.
  9. It is agreed that B.O. will veto an extension of the Bush tax cuts (see above) for those families earning more than $250,000 a year unless there is elimination of current tax subsidies.
The deal as it stands above is very similar to Boehner's last plan he put forward and the House passed.  Clearly, even CNN is admitting that the Republicans got almost all they wanted and the Democrats got very little of anything they wanted except that the ceiling was raised to prevent default.

Still needs to pass the House and the Senate.  As I write this, we have no idea of where Pelosi, who has supposedly agreed to this, really stands.

The Two Competing Plans Right Now (July 25 @ 3 p.m.)

Here's a good account of the two plans. Well written.

But here's the problem. The parties can't agree on the solution. What they need to do first is: "forget the numbers". Then they need to negotiate on the points of the package. For example:

A. Will there be a debt ceiling raise? (The answer is a definite and obvious 'yes'.)
A1. If so, how much? Negotiate that.
A2. Once we agree to A1, negotiate the timing or the number of stages.

B. Will there be spending cuts?
B1. If so, how much? Negotiate that.
B2. Once we agree to B1, then agree to when.

C. Will there revenue increases?
C1. Is so, how much? Negotiate that.
C2. Once we agree to C1, then agree to where and what programs?
C3. Once we agree to C2, then negotiate timing for each cut.

D. Nothing is agreed to until everything is agreed to.

This is all "basic negotiating 101". I can't believe these guys can't sit down and do that. They need either a facilitator or a mediator. There's lots of good ones around.

Just heard two minutes ago on CNN B.O. has okayed the Democrat approach. That won't fly. It may have to be dictated! Take a look.

U.K.'s Daily Mail Has the Scoop on U.S. DHS's view of Terrorism.

This is unbelievable. If you are white and middle class, take a look at how your tax dollars are portraying you as the only type of terrorist the U.S. has to worry about. And if you're not careful, chances are someone who is not white, but instead is black, asian, or arab, has every right to call the police. At the very least, this is really bad 'casting'. At the worse, it is exactly what the White House administration wants you to think.

I don't make this stuff up and it comes from reliable sources. Even my liberal friends can't keep ignoring this stuff and simply say, "it's just a coincidence." Or can they. Why not, Robin B.O. Hood and his merry men do.

Maybe It is Time to Bring Down the P of the U.S. (POTUS)

Let's make B.O. a prophet and let his presidency fall on this. He's clearly in a corner that his own arrogance, agenda, and stubbornness have created. It looks good on him and it's time he stop blaming Bush, the GOP, the rich, and anything or anyone else he can. This all rests clearly on his shoulders.

This afternoon, he clearly couldn't stand the heat and he left the kitchen until tomorrow. This is a sign of poor leadership skills and one frustrated man.

How to fool the people without the facts.  Well, here are the facts and the people won't be fooled.  If all B.O. has to complain about is this "tax break" as his main reason (so far) for insisting he be allowed to increase the debt ceiling -- well, heaven help us.   Take a look at the facts.
