How American Civil Liberties Union, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and Some Women are not friends of Jesus!

I guess when you believe in a cause, you believe in a cause. Maybe Christians can learn from these guys (or should I say 'gals' as it seems to me it is mainly women with time on their hands who lead the drive against God. You'll find this story interesting. Take a look and be aware of how the Enemy works. But that's okay, contrary to what the Prince of Darkness uttered at the end of the old famous movie, "The Seventh Seal" where he jubilantly yells out, "Checkmate" -- the truth is that the King of Kings Always Has One More Move!

Jesus' name ruled 'unconstitutional'

You Think Religion & State Should Be Separate. Fine. What About Religion and Major League Sports?

Okay, I didn't see this coming, but obviously it is. Take a look at this recent USA Today night. The Oakland A's baseball franchise wants to get more fans out and the Jewish community approached them with an idea to do so. As a result, they're having a Jewish Heritage night. Take a look.

But the Muslims say that's not kosher. They must either cancel it or give them a night as well. Okay, so the Muslims ask for a night and one of two things happens. Either they get one -- and we'll see who shows up. Or they don't get one -- and the Muslims sue. Let me save you the trouble and the wait -- if that happens and providing all else is equal, the Muslims will win. And then no one will have a special religious theme night. Ball game over.

Take a look.

Is the Palestinian Authority Really Ready To Run A State?

I find it amazing that what seems to really matter is what the IMF thinks of a body's ability to be fiscally viable as a key criteria for statehood. The IMF says the P.A. is ready, but is it really? Take a look at some things the Israel press is bringing out since no one else seems to be willing to do it for them.

How not to build a state

Is it time to rethink the relationship of Religion and Politics?

After I blogged about the Fox Network not allowing a Christian advertisement regarding John 3:16 during the Super Bowl game this year, a friend on Facebook wrote this on my wall: "When these kinds of issues arise I always remember the old saying: Stay away from discussing religion and politics. I think rational debate on either of these is not possible most of the time."

I do agree in her one phrase, "rational debate . . . is not possible most of the time."  But, I also
believe we need to find a way to discuss religion with politics and vice-versa.  We have ignored them too long.  We have tried to separate church and state when they cannot be.  Certainly the new world (the emerging Islamic world that is now in our face) is not seeing them or treating them that way.

I am not sure that Jesus would have us treat them that way, either.  Yes, He said we are to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's, but I believe that is all about obeying both in as far as it is possible.  That is, obeying the laws of the land where they do not contradict God's.  Other places in scripture bear that out.  But I believe  He wants us to take our "faith" into our lives and that includes into our civil responsibilities -- into our votes and into our influencing of others.  In short, into our blatant and not so blatant politics.  If our Lord cannot be our Lord in our politics (not necessarily the world's views, but ours), then can He be Lord of any thing?   And if He is Lord of my politics, then I must share Him when I share my views on politics.  In fact, I would go as far as to say, now is a good time for all good (Christian) men (and women) to come to the aid of their faith and take advantage of the times -- times when government without faith in God has proven to be a total failure.

These are just my thoughts.  What do you think?

Middle East: Is the Two-State Solution Dead?

Robert Grenier writing in AlJazeera suggests it is.  You can see all his credentials (and they are impressive) when you click on to the article I'm referring to.  Here's his thinking.

The process of peace in the Middle East is all about "taking risks" and "trusting".  Most parties would agree that the greatest amount of "risk" to be taken rests with the Palestinians.  After all, this is the land of Israel we're talking about and the Israelis already have a recognized "state".   The P.A. also needs an agreement.  Israel, as long as it is not over-bombed, can live without one.  Its risk is limited to how long things can go on without a negotiated deal before the P.A. or their allies start a massive attack on Israel.

To make matters harder, the Israelis (and others) are demanding that the Palestinians could maintain a peaceful state that would not keep on bombing Israel if they were to be recognized.  And for some time now, as a result, the concept of "land for peace" (given all the concessions made by Israel in the last 28 years) really started being "land for Israeli security".   Well, I believe, there's very little land left to give and Israel is saying, "no more".   But that's all that the U.S. knows how to push for.

After 9/11, to get American support for a peace deal in the Middle East, Arafat agreed to "try and control his radicals" who used terrorism to get their way.  But that didn't go too well and Arafat also died.  Not satisfied that the leadership after Arafat has done or is doing a better job at that goal, Israel (backed by the U.S.) is saying, "no deal".  The problem is that the longer a deal is in the making, a new risk arises -- that of some of the P.A.'s friends coming to the end of their patience, join the conflict, and a major war ensues.  In fact there is a possibility that their own people may start seeing the P.A. negotiators as collaborators with the other side in not reaching a settlement.  In Grenier's opinion, the Palestine Papers (a ten-year record of negotiations) shows this not be the case -- claiming the papers show that the P.A. has made every effort to get an honorable settlement.  Grenier goes on to say he is ashamed of his country's (the U.S.) weakness in not getting a settlement, preferring instead to not upset the Israelis at home and in Israel.

Here's Grenier's bottom line: "The overwhelming conclusion one draws from this record is that the process for a two-state solution is essentially over, that the history of the peace process is one of abject failure for all concerned. The Palestinian participants, having lost the most, will likely suffer most. But I can only come away with the passionately-held belief that these people deserved better."

You decide.   Better still give us your thoughts if you think it will still work and how?

The Marketing of Evil -- Synopsis, Part II - Church and State

David Kupelian's book "The Marketing of Evil" is a must read. It presents very elucidating evidence on just how we're being sold a bill of goods that in essence is not what we want. Chapter two, the subject of this particular blog on its synopsis, is about how the separation of Church and State has been twisted to something that was never intended. Kupelian takes us back to the beginning and moves forward to where we are today -- a situation totally contrary to what America's founding fathers had in mind. Take a look at some of the thoughts highlighted in this chapter:

* We need to accept the painful truth that the American Constitution (and thus the very reins of power) has been stolen from the American people while they were too busy going to work, raising their kids, paying the bills, etc.

* Kupelian asks, "do you really believe the Founding Fathers wanted to make kids into criminals for saying 'Merry Christmas' at school? Did they intend for the Supreme Court to outlaw prayer in the nation's learning institutions when all of their own congressional sessions to this very day open with a prayer?" Good questions.

* When judges "create legislation through judicial fiat that no legislature in the nation could, or would, dare enact . . . they are flouting the U.S. and state constitutions, violating their oaths of office, betraying the trust of current and future generations of Americans, and usurping power that's not legally theirs".

* Kupelian shows how judges are now both turning to International Law to establish American Law while at the same time challenging the sufficiency of the American Constitution to govern America in the years ahead. Really!

* The First Amendment reads in part, "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion." How does 'Congress' doing that translate to "no State, no Municipal government, no school, etc." shall "make no such law"? Kupelian writes, "This is obviously something the original thirteen states would have rejected outright, given that half of them had state establishments of religion." Interesting.

* Kuplelian goes back to the very origin of the concept of the separation of church and state. It is not what you think. It comes from a famous sermon by Roger Williams, the founder of the Rhode Island Plantation colony, and a Baptist. Thomas Jefferson was referring to that well-known sermon at the time when he wrote his words. You'll need to read the book for all the details but clearly, the intent was that the "church" was to be protected from being overrun by "government", and not the other way around. Most interesting. Clearly today we have a twisting of the truth and the facts at to what Jefferson had in mind.

* Perhaps you knew this and I didn't, but we need to keep in mind that in the U.S., Supreme Court justices can also be impeached, just like presidents. Not a bad thought at all.

Again, I strongly recommend the book, "The Marketing of Evil: How Radicals, Elitists, and Pseudo-Experts Sell Us Corruption Disguised As Freedom" by David Kupelian, WND Books, Nashville, 2005.

In the next blog in this series, we tackle David's third chapter of his book, entitled "Killer Culture: Who's Selling Sex and Rebellion to Your Children?" Stay tuned.
