CNN under its "religion" breaking news banner gives us this story this morning. Sad, sad, sad. The reasons: poverty, lack of knowledge, no alternatives. But the future implications for these children (and the country) is horrifying.
The answer is clearly not opium. Not even religion. Perhaps a hand up to get out of poverty, learn the facts, and gain hope for living through a personal relationship with God. But then again that will be the last thing any NGO will ever recommend.
