Diagonalization is not a safe compromise but "a positive and viable third way" that the Bible gives us for the dichotomies in our culture. It is most often a radical intervention, subverting accepted commonplaces and challenging us to reconsider our assumptions, leaving the initial dichotomized options appearing distinctly bland and unappetizing by comparison. -- C.
