#27 -- Joshua 8:1-9

Joshua listens to God's Plan this time for taking Ai. With God in charge again, he was ready to follow it to the letter. Join us as we continue our study in Joshua, looking at chapter 8, verses 1 to 9 for the lessons we can use in life today.

It would be great if you would share your thoughts or questions on this blog in the comments section below or on social media.

  1. It is interesting to hear the various takes on the fate of Achan's children. There is a similar dispute around Jepthah's daughter in Judges 11. That story has always bothered me and some commentators find a way to skate around it. However, the plain language doesn't seem to leave any wiggle room to reconfigure that horrible tragedy.

  2. Thanks for your comment Bob. There is no getting around the story of Jepthah's daughter. But the lesson for us all is not to "open our mouths with oaths that are so open-ended as he made -- "whoever comes out of the doors of my house" etc. Actually the NASB says, "whatever comes out" -- I think he was thinking of one of his animals and that one he would 'sacrifice' as a burnt offering. So, her death may have not been wasted if it taught as a great lesson. Ken.
