This looks good on Obama. More components of Christianity should have the guts to stand up against this administration on many issues. This one alone is enough to defeat Obama -- not because it's about abortion, but because it's about a President who is basically saying, "I don't give a da__ about your religion."
Enough is enough. Didn't someone in part of Europe who was the cause of two world wars say something like that to a whole race once and then proceeded to try and annihilate them? I think so. Let's not go there. If Americans who do believe (or who believe in the right to believe if one so chooses) do not commit to doing all they can to defeat this current president in the next election, we can all kiss our right to faith good-bye.

A good Catholic friend of mine sent me this comment. It's well worth repeating here:
ReplyDelete"The picture they have is of cardinal designate Timothy Dolan who is the archbishop of New York. 60 minutes did a piece in him and called him the pope of America. I know that he's leading the charge and that's a good thing. A couple of weeks ago he had a one on one with Obama and may or may not have been given a heads up on this.
Another interesting note in this is that Roger Cardinal Mahoney of LA whom some conservative Catholics decry as a liberal came out swinging in the fight along with Dolan and Chaput of Philly. He's recently retired at 75 which is the usual retirement age. The comment was made that if those three guys agree that this is bad then it's really, really bad.
As for the headline that the Church has launched a fight that's of course hyperbole. The bishops of the USA have begun the fight. As I said, it's nothing short of an attempt to regulate a religion and they've decided to start with the biggest identifiable group out there. I don't think that Obama himself has had any comment. Perhaps that's in case the push fails and he can claim it was his underlings at fault.
The way the structure works is that while Dolan is the president of the US bishops conference he's not superior to the others but merely a spokesperson for the conference. They're all equal apostles with Peter (Benedict XVI) as the superior. If the pope has any comment at all that would be interesting. I can only imagine that the comment would be something like "Render unto Caesar..." which would to me be a statement of "keep out of our faith". Of course that would make some Americans scream that a foreign guy is meddling in American affairs. I don't see it coming to that. The only time I know of a modern government getting a Papal smack down was the nazis."
