When A Leader Ignores the Constitution and other National Documents -- We Have Moved from Limited Government to A Soft Dictatorship.

This story from WND has it right. These things don't happen by accident. They happen by intention and planning. B.O. doesn't seem to give a hoot about what the American Way is. He is charting his own path at the country's peril. But you judge for yourself.

Is Obama purging God from America 'by design'?

Yucca Mountain: How Things Change When You're Buds With the B.O.

All systems were go for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste project in Nevada. Everyone had given the green light and billions of taxpayer dollars had been spent getting it. The only guy that didn't want it was Harry Reid, Dem. & Senate Majority Leader. Well, he managed to get his way when the B.O. became president. NOW lots of people want to know why, including a GOP-led congressional committee. Here are the details:

Obama More Effective Than Old Man -- When It Comes to Masks For Holding Up Banks

I don't know whatever gave this Austrian bank-robber the idea of improving his success at robbing banks by using an Obama mask, but it seems to have worked for a while. But eventually the Obama-masked robber got caught. Some day, maybe the real B.O. will be relieved of his activities as well. Here's hoping 2012 is a good year for that. But you have to chuckle at the humor of the attached article.

Cut It (the Budget) or Shut It (the Government)

The numbers are piling up against the B.O.'s budget and it will be interesting to watch what happens in the House in the next few days. Will the new GOP leaders stay true to their promises or will they fail to do so -- because they don't want to be remembered as the one's dropping the axe on the government.
This is a great video. Some GOP members have made their demands clear -- $60 Billion. But will they all stay together?

It doesn't -- at least not very well. Man cannot fairly judge such a situation. The man has defected. Abortion Is Abortion: Even If Nurses Do It Safely in Developing Countries

When you have no absolute morals or a guided by Divine instruction, you often try to solve one problem by creating or ignoring others. Rather than do all in our power to eliminate the need for abortions or unwanted babies, now we are putting our emphasis on just making sure that abortions are safely performed in third world countries. If an abortion is absolutely necessary (we won't go into my own views on when that is here), then by all means a safe abortion is better than a butcher job (I make no apologies for the comparison). Anyway, this link tells what a Nepal study is finding and recommending. Take a look. Like everything else, when there's no moral compass -- some good is mixed in with a whole lot of bad.

NO U.S. or Canadian "Boots On The Ground" In Libya, So They Say Now.

So, NATO has given itself three months to win this war for the Libyan rebels. The rebels are to get no "arms". And U.S. and Canada won't put any boots on the ground. I don't hear others fighting for the chance to put their boots on the ground at this time.

So, death and loses will be slow in this case. And a win may be elusive. Can somebody please tell me if we are at war or not. And if we are, just exactly what kind of war is this? I can't believe we are so naive as to think that the approach the so-called allies are taking is one our statesmen of yesterday year would take. These guys are out of their depth trying to play "we're in, but not all the way". More lives will be lost and NATO is just getting around to investigating how many have been lost so far. Thank you NATO, how nice of you.

Every one of the allies, especially the U.S. under B.O. is tiptoeing through the tulips on this one in fear of loosing their political base at home. Integrity is no longer at stake, only survival -- their very own at the next elections.

If I'm any example of what some people think, I believe that there is only one thing worse that most of the world hates about a country like the U.S. that goes into another country when it doesn't belong; and that's a country that can't make up its mind as to whether it is in or out, and does everything to just look and survive the next elections. The U.S. is coming very close at being just that.

Joseph Weeps - Genesis 43:26-31

When Joseph came home, they brought into the house to him the present which was in their hand and bowed to the ground before him.  Then he asked them about their welfare, and said, “Is your old father well, of whom you spoke? Is he still alive?”  And they said, “Your servant our father is well; he is still alive.”  And they bowed down in homage.  As he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, he said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?”  And he said, “May God be gracious to you, my son.”  And Joseph hurried out for he was deeply stirred over his brother, and he sought a place to weep; and he entered his chamber and wept there.  Then he washed his face, and came out; and he controlled himself and said, “Serve the meal.”

Joseph finishes his morning overseeing the business at hand, selling grain to Egyptians and others during the seven years of famine that part of the world was experiencing and he comes home for lunch.  He had already sent his steward home with the eleven Hebrews, giving him instructions to prepare them to dine with him.

Once he was inside, Jacob’s other sons, Joseph’s brothers, bring in the present they had prepared for him, at the suggestion of the steward.  They bowed down to him and nothing more was said about the gift; it was just something that was customary and expected.  At this point Joseph takes over the conversation.

I find it interesting how, even during these very potentially emotional times for him, he manages to be as courteous as he was, taking care first of all to ask about their own welfare and how they were bearing out.  His sincerity in that question, however, is something else.  It is possible that the Bible records no response from the brothers to that query because Joseph left them little time to answer.  He wanted to quickly move on to enquire about those for whom he had a greater interest.  It reminds me a little of how we often say as we pass one another, “How are you?” but never even slow down long enough to get a simple, “Okay.”  It’s really just a formality and we don’t genuinely care about the person we’ve posed the question to.  I remember a dear lady at church one Sunday stop me in the lobby as I whisked by her asking just that question, “How are you?”  She put one hand on each of my shoulders and looked me straight in the eye and said, “Ken, look, you and I are friends and we like each other.  But please do not ever again ask me ‘how I am’ unless you genuinely care and will stop long enough to find out.  I’d rather you just say, “Good morning, Mikki.”  Wow.  She was right and I have never forgotten that lesson that Mikki gave me that day.

Joseph then asks them about their father’s health, but as he does, he is ever so careful to ensure they did not forget how he knew about Jacob by adding the phrase, “of whom you spoke”.  His real concern was that Jacob was still alive.  To his relief, the brothers told him that Jacob was both alive and well, and they bowed down again to him as they reported this, identifying even Jacob as being Joseph’s servant.  You will remember that back in Genesis 37, Joseph had two dreams. One of the dreams suggested that someday Joseph would rule over them.  The second suggested that Joseph rule not only his brothers, but also Jacob his father in the future.  So, to see his brothers bowing before Joseph on their own behalf, while they refer to their father as “Joseph’s servant”, is very significant in the actualization of those dreams.

From verse 16 of this chapter, we know that Joseph had already seen Benjamin and that was likely the reason they got invited to dine with him at his house.  But still he asks them to identify him as such.  Again, the Bible does not record a reply.  Joseph did not wait for one.  Alternatively, the reply may have been a tacit one, simply a nodding of the head by the brothers.

But what is most significant here may well be the impact all of this had on Joseph.  We know that he left (or maybe even fled) the scene weeping to go his chambers.  He later composed himself and returned to give the order that the meal be served.  Between the time he left and the time he returned, what did the brothers think?  What were the servants wondering?  We’ll never know but these are questions certainly worth considering.  Our actions at times like these certainly have an impact on those that witness them.

Are there other, more personally applied questions that we would be well to ponder as we read this portion of scripture?  I think so.  Do you and I have a “weeping chamber”?  Is there a place we can go that allows us to deal with our emotions in human solitude, but in the presence of our heavenly Father?  Are we able with His help to compose ourselves, “wash” ourselves, and return to public activities?  And in so doing, will we be aware and then considerate of how our behavior has impacted those that know what happened?

There is no event or circumstance so difficult that time in our weeping chamber alone with God would not ease.  Yet, sadly, many of us fail to retire there for the necessary time.  I pray God will help each of us to realize the times this is necessary and give us the courage and the mind to do so.  I pray we will all be able to rely on His comfort and Word during those times, then compose ourselves, and return to the mission He has for us to accomplish.

"There to Protect, Not to Arm Libyan people." - World - CBC News

The NATO chief has said he's against arming the Libyan rebels. That makes sense. On the one hand we hear this particular group of rebels is not well trained or organized and on the other hand the U.S. wants to put significant military arms into their hands. Does not compute. That may be a nice out for the U.S. -- you know, "we've given them the tools to do the job, so we don't have to, and what happens happens." Sorry, no go, Mr. President and others. You're either in or you're out of this one. You wanted in, now do your part.

An additional thought about my homeland: And while Greece is struggling economically, it looks like the world still has a use for it as the NATO planes will partially be based out of Greece.  Glad we can contribute.

With Oil, Canada Has a Chance to Mold U.S. Policy

B.O. has admitted that it needs Canada's oil big time. We have a choice -- we can give it to them strictly for the right price -- just a business deal and nothing more. Or, we can start playing their game. By that I mean, "Mr. President, you want our oil, we suggest that you no longer support our enemies in any way. And you start being harder on those that act or speak against our friends. B.O. start recognizing that Islam as it is intended to be practiced is more than merely a religion." In demanding that, we'd not only become a more revered source of oil and influential global leading nation, but we'd also be helping the majority of true Americans.

Here's our chance. Of course, as Canadians, we may be too polite to demand that. And we can always use the money to buy more hockey and lottery tickets, trucks, and beer. Oh well.

The Best of Israel; Why So Many Are Envious; & Third Nation on the Moon

An excellent example of why so many people and nations have a hatred for Israel. Instead of celebrating what a small country, always on the defensive, can accomplish, including much for the good of mankind through science and medicine -- many want to eliminate it. It does not compute, unless of course you account for man's sinful nature.

Libya War Is A Mess For All

Here are some thoughts that come to mind as I look at what is developing in Libya.

Problem: First of all Gaddafi has got to go, so says the U.S. and others.  But they can and will only do so much to help the Libyan people and rebels (I don't consider them one and the same) to get rid of him.

Problem: Rebels not doing so well these days as they seem to be retreating and feeling unsupported by the airstrikes that were supposed to be happening, at least in Brega.   The people are panicking as a result and likely dying.  The no-fly coalition was hot to trot so they didn't look bad in the eyes of the world, but in essence may have caused more harm than good since they're only in half-heartedly.

Problem:  This is a war and a place that can't be won by airstrikes alone.  What is on the ground does matter.  Arming the rebels will help somewhat, but not sure if it's enough.  Political pressure vs. Gaddafi is about as effective as a martini drink paper umbrella against a hurricane.

Problem: Uganda is offering Gaddafi asylum.  I guess that's as good a place as any.  At least, he'll be in familiar territory with respect to how a country is managed.  But the problem is I'm not sure Libyans will want him to get off that easy.  You see, when someone who has been abused is finally set free, that's not enough; now, he wants revenge.  And if anyone deserves it, it may be Libya''s people.

Problem (for Gaddafi):  His key people starting to leave him -- Foreign Minister just arrived in London and announced he resigned from the Gaddafi regime.

Problem: U.S. estimates that they have spent 1/2 a billion so far on this mission and the on-going cost could be $40 million a month with, wait for it, "no clear exit strategy"  (although I wonder how you can exit something that you've never really entered -- at least on the ground).

Problem: Arming the rebels could be done, but the experts disagree that it will work.  Thus no action.  The real problem is that these rebels are poorly trained and the whole thing was a "me too" rebellion with no planning and grassroots work.  Direction is also non-existent.

In brief, not looking good at all for any of the parties.  Leaders need to learn, that these days, you can't be a "little bit pregnant" just like you can't be "in a war with just your toes" -- you're in, or you're not.  The major players ought to be ashamed of themselves for their total incompetency in this matter.  Hey, but that's easy for me to say, sitting here in a nice armchair.  What do you think?

Why September 2011 is Critical For Israel and the Palestinians

Let me net this out for you, with of course, some of my own commentary.  Then you can read the nitty-gritty details for yourself from a rather well-informed article by Haaretz.  But here are the key points:

  1. If the U.N. declares a state for Palestinians within the 1967 borders, as the Palestinian Authority is insisting it does this September by a vote, then Israel will take its own unilateral action.
  2. Some U.N. members are encouraging the Palestinians to forgo negotiations with Israel and to pursue recognition by the U.N.
  3. Israel says that violates the Oslo Accords and will lead to violence on the ground.
  4. One diplomat of the U.N. said in light of no progress in negotiations, it is likely most U.N. members will vote for Palestinian recognition.
  5. No actual decision yet made by Israel but some options include: applying Israeli law to the West Bank or annexing major settlement blocs to Israel.
  6. September is pivotal because last September B.O. told U.N. general assembly he wished to see a Palestinian state become a member of the UN within a year.  (Watch him deal with this one. Clearly, he won't be vetoing any such move even if he could and he can't.)
  7. Also, parties had agreed talks they started last September would last about one year.
  8. Third, Palestinian program for establishing institutions needed by a new state wraps up this Septemeber.
  9. Palestinian Authority (P.A.) President Abbas has told former Israeli leaders (he doesn't seem to talk to the current one) no further talks after this September.  Other P.A. officials have added, if progress is being made, they'll defer the vote request at the U.N.
  10. Also P.A. seems to be saying could talk for three months (June, July, August) but Israel would have to suspend all construction in the West Bank.
  11. If so, P.A. would not renew violence against Israel (at least they're admitting they do cause it).
  12. Currently no direct contacts between the parties.
So there you have it, folks.  The clock is ticking towards September.  For the first time this appears to be a real deadline.  If the U.N. declare a Palestinian statehood, on what is currently Israeli ground, then Israel has no choice but to take unilateral action.  So, it seems (one can never be sure) that this September timetable has some significance.  Both parties, but especially the P.A. and all their U.N. supporters are getting very impatient.  If Israel is smart, it will have them "throw the first boulder."

Yesterday It Wasn't Sin; Today It Is; What Will Be Sin Tomorrow?

One of the amazing things about certain religions is that they can be 'developed' as we go along. For example, it appears that Islamic uprisings and protests in certain countries were not seen as sin. But in Saudi Arabia, where the ruling powers have this unique deal with the religious leaders -- all of a sudden the religious leaders can issue a fatwa that calls protesting sin in essence. What a convenient religion. I am sure that the Creator was consulted before this decision was made after all it is His religion we all claim to follow. And I guess that's a new aspect about Him as well -- He can now change His mind as necessary to ensure certain political outcomes. I like that. But I'm not sure how valid the whole thing is. You check it out for yourself.

I'm Not Big On Hollywood Idols But Here Are Some Things That Should Surprise You About Elizabeth Taylor

I do not usually do even mini-blogs on Hollywood actors.  However, this link caught my interest for several reasons.  First, it was about that part of Elizabeth Taylor's life that both Hollywood and the mainstream liberal media chose to say very little about, if anything.  Secondly, what we don't know about peeople never fails to amaze.  Thirdly, it surprises me that Ms. Taylor would have such passion about this very topic.  Take a look.

And by the way, never judge a person by her Cleopatra hairstyle.

This is hard to believe. Will It Be An Eye for An Eye In Israel When It Comes To Prisoners?

There's nothing fair about love and nothing really fair about war. So the saying goes. And this story shows the latter.

First, it's an interesting story to see how prisoners of party A are treated by party B and vice-versa. Secondly, it will be an interesting story to follow as to whether party B will start treating party A prisoners the way party B's prisoners are treated by party A. If you follow all that, you're good. The article should help you clear it all up in your mind.

Should Israel adopt these pieces of legislation? If they do, they certainly won't be leading by example. If they do, they'll have a lot to answer for to many in Israel who may not be so "turn the other cheek" oriented.

How A Country Sells Its Soul -- Trade Over the Truth

Who cares about the truth? Not Argentina apparently. Instead they'd rather have improved trade relations with the country accused of bombing the Israeli embassy and a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires in the 1990s.

So, they're dropping their investigations to get just that. Israel go hang.

Don't worry, Israel, you don't need friends like that. But will the U.S. who also accused Iran re. these bombings speak up for you? I haven't heard anything yet, have you?

Tonight, as our church studied compassion, we learned that "we can kill someone with our silence". Looks like some countries are really good at this already.

What Harper Should Have Said Regarding A Coalition

I'm very surprised that Stephen Harper has attacked an opposition coalition -- after Ignatieff said he wouldn't have one.

Why bother saying anything like that Mr. Harper? It's almost as if the campaign team is not listening to what others are saying but pre-recording topics they want to cover. That works when the topics are in your favor, but it can backfire too. In this case, Stephen should have kept quiet on this topic.

IN FACT, one of the things wrong with Canadian politics is that it's mainly about the "other guys" -- why what they want to do is wrong, etc. It should be more about "here's what we want to do and why".

Come on, fellas. You have an opportunity to change the "going over the cliff in a handbasket to hell" state of your field of work.   -- I know that's more than one metaphor but it best describes the state of our politics today in Canada. Just stick to your platforms, and in the case of the Conservatives, your record.

Where Canada Now Stands on Usage-Based Billing (UBB) for Internet Services

This is the letter I received from Tony Clement, the Minister of Industry after I wrote to him.  It would have been nice if he had recognized me by preferably my name, but at least my sex.  Oh well, you can't win them all.  Other than that, this should help you understand what he said.  And if you figure it out, let me know.

Dear Sir or Madam:

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding usage-based billing (UBB)
for Internet services.  It is essential that I hear the views of Canadians
on the issues that matter.  Prime Minister Harper and I have been clear
that we cannot support imposing a UBB business model on wholesale Internet
service providers.

Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
innovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
carefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture.  We will be
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
market forces to prevail.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large
number of Canadians.  Details of the CRTC consultation are available at
www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/com100/2011/r110208.htm.

When the CRTC reaches a final decision following its consultations, the
government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in
line with the best interests of Canadian consumers and encourages
competition among internet service providers.  I will be recommending that
any decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.
You can find the latest news on the government’s Digital Economy Strategy
and related issues at www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/ic1.nsf/eng/h_00008.html.

Once again, thank you for writing.  I trust that this information is
helpful.

Yours sincerely,

Tony Clement

Isn't It Amazing that We Are in A War Where the U.S. and Britain are fighting on the side of Al-Qaeda Jihadists?

Can things get any more complex or complicated than this? The U.S. and the British are helping rebels, some of which are Al-Qaeda fighters. How is that possible? Well, it happens very easily if a country like the U.S., Canada, Britain, France, acts with mediocrity on certain fronts and fails to act at all on other fronts. It happens when the leadership of these countries lose their moral compass.
And it's happening in Egypt, now Libya, and who knows where else next. Take a look.

Why Some Canadian Politicians Are Not Very Smart

Well, after blowing his opportunity to show he is a decisive leader yesterday once he helped topple the Canadian government, Liberal leader Ignatieff today announces he won't form a coalition if the Conservatives win the most seats and can only form a minority.  He won't call on the NDP or the Bloc to help him form the government.  Was this smart or stupid?

I think it was stupid and here's why.  First of all, look at the standings when the government fell March 25th:

Conservatives: 143
Liberals:            77
Bloc Queb.:       47
NDP:                 36
Independents:     2
Vacant:               3

Total:               308

Ignatieff should have been looking at the numbers.  First, he trails the Conservatives almost 2 to 1.  Hard odds to beat in this kind of an election.  Second, he should be listening to the polls.  Thirdly, he should be listening to what some of his own may be saying about his leadership capabilities and future.  There is absolutely no way that without a coalition he could ever be prime minister.

What he should have said is this:  a) I would not form a coalition with the Bloc Quebecois -- as they are out to break up the country.  b) I would consider a coalition with the NDP if their seats and ours were sufficient to form a coalition government.  c) vote liberal, or failing that vote NDP, just don't vote Conservative or Bloc in Quebec.   That's what an honest and helpful and smart politician would have said for my money.   But that's not what we have here.

Now, let's move on to Mr. Layton of the NDP.   This actor is a fighter, but he's not a realist.  After what Ignatieff said, he takes off attacking both Harper and Ignatieff, and then returns to 2008 to run on the same platform as back then that got him no gains -- he is once again running to be king (read Prime Minister).  He gets an A for Aspiration.   But I think after this next election, he and Ignatieff will be looking at an E for Exit or Expiration.  (Darn, the old school teacher is coming out in me.)

What Layton should be saying is something like this:  I'm not going to run a negative campaign attacking anyone.  I'm going to tell you what we will do for this country and for you and what it will mean to you in terms of money in your pocket, jobs, education, old age, national security, etc.  I believe the hard-working people of the NDP can indeed work hard for every Canadian and I'd appreciate your vote to let us show you that.  Period.  End of statement.   He needs to stop being cute and witty -- of which he is both.  He should save that for when he is Prime Minister or for his grandchildren.

And as for Mr. Ducette, his platform precedes him. It's very simple, "Give me the money!"  Now, that will win a lot of votes in Quebec, or will it?

Why are some Canadian politicians not very smart?   Well, if you don't know by now, you'll soon see plenty of evidence in the next five weeks.

A smart move by Harper -- May 2nd over 9th -- let's get the pain over with for Canadians (more votes for him) and shorter time for polls to change (now in his favour). Now, that's a decisive and smart Prime-Minister.

For those of our readers that want more Canadian content (it seems to be a theme these days with many Canadians), here's a little for you. At Last -- A 'bible' Everyone Can Believe In

I have it! At last a 'bible' Everyone Can Believe IN. I could make a fortune (and I bet someone who reads this will). Its front and back covers look exactly like your typical King James or any other famous version you want -- but inside is just blank pages where you can write whatever you want to believe in and propose that others believe.

Of course, I'm being sarcastic. I'm just sick and tired of all the watering down (Rob Bell is the latest 'spiritual gardener' these days with his views on hell and universalism) that people are making. God didn't preserve His Word for as long as He did the way He preserved it so that some people who can't stand the opposition from their GBLT friends, or their "how can God send anyone to hell" friends (by the way, He does not - we choose to go ourselves), and their "every road to leads to God and whatever heaven is" friends. Come people, get over it. The Bible is the Bible and It is God's Word. Live with It. Live By It. Or, have the intestinal fortitude (read 'guts') to give it up altogether. Either way, be manly about it.

Who's Leading in the GOP Candidate Polls?

I'm no 'seer' but I thin the writing is on the wall for the GOP's if these numbers don't change soon.

Huckabee is leading -- but he can't beat Obama easily.

Romney has a chance to beat Obama -- assuming he can beat Huckabee at the convention.

Palin and Gingrich should say good-bye now.

And that will leave room for an up and comer like Bachmann.

Those are the top runners according to survey polls. But lots can happen. It's not over until the fat lady sings.

A Name to Look For At the GOP 2012 Nomination Convention

Not saying anything yet, but this is one person that should be followed in the next few months. And I am neither assessing her politics nor her chances.  I just wanted to point out she may be just the ticket for the GOP.

Four questions:
1. What does this mean for Sarah Palin who is still thinking?
2. What does this mean for Mitt Romney?
3. What does she know about foreign affairs -- clearly we blew it last time -- and the next President will be expected to rank high in this regard?
4. Is she just running to have a shot at the V.P. candidate's spot if a Romney or someone else wins?

On that last point, you can be sure Buchmann won't be a V.P. for Sarah Palin -- even she knows that there's no way Americans will be able to swallow two females in the top two jobs in the country.

NATO Poised to Takeover Command of Intervention in Liyban

Not clear what agreement Turkey (the hold out) got in order to allow NATO that requires all 28 member states to agree, but at least we seem to have an agreement.  The original big-3 coalition will turn it all over to a single command in the next 48 to 72 hours.

It is not clear whether Turkey got its way into what kind of offensive can be used and whether or not it was only about protecting civilians or helping eliminate Gaddafi.  In addition, the accord seems to be for one year maximum and includes the fact that Turkish ground forces if used would not shoot against fellow Muslims.

Again, it's time for my favorite line these days, "oh, what a mess we're in."  Take a look for yourself.

Jesus, Faith, and Miracles/Signs vs. Words

Do you believe in miracles? I do.  I mean after all, if I'm at a wedding and someone turns my glass of water (from which I have already had a sip and know it is water) into excellent red wine, I cannot deny that a miracle has taken place, regardless of how it is explained.  I know I couldn't do it.

Or I'm walking along the street and an acquaintance of mine about whom I know something but not very much, is approached by someone I don't know at all.  The latter tells my acquaintance that his child is dying and my acquaintance says "The child will live, just return home."  I just happen to check my watch at the instant that is said and I note the time.  A little while later, this stranger returns and informs my acquaintance that his child was indeed healed at exactly 2 p.m. that afternoon.  I remember that was the exact time my acquaintance made his statement, "The child will live."  As a result, I believe in miracles.

And I believe with the exception of some people who may be named Thomas, just about everyone under those and similar situations, would believe in miracles.  However, I also understand that such belief only allows one to account for what he cannot explain.  It does not get you much more than just that in life.

Neither can one say that "because I believe in miracles, I am a true believer in God, the kind Jesus wanted and talked about."  Philip W. Comfort and Wendell  C. Hawley in their book Opening John's Gospels and Epistles: Pastoral Reflections on Love, Light, and Logos say, "True belief in God means belief in his Word.  Jesus' miracles, according to the Gospel of John, were signs pointing the people who witnessed them to the one who performed the signs -- Jesus, the Messiah, the Son of God.  If the miracle produced faith only in a miracle worker and not in the Son of God, then the purpose of the sign was missed."

I wonder how many of us have only been believing in the miracles and maybe even in the fact that whoever performs them, including Jesus, is a wonderful miracle-worker?  I think of all the miracles that people experience everyday as they live (some of them not even realizing it sometimes) and yet know nothing about the Miracle Worker.  Or I think of the thousands that go to someone, some place, at the right time, and pay the right entrance or application fee, in order to get healed, and if by chance they do, they focus strictly on the human miracle-worker who was involved.

And then there are those of us who are perfectly aware of miracles in our own lives all the time.  We believe in miracles.  We are also aware of miracles performed by God in the lives of others, individually and globally.  We are fully cognizant of the true Miracle Worker.  But have taken the next step to go beyond those beliefs?

We must move to point where our belief must be in Jesus' "words", not just His miracles.  We must believe what He has said about Himself, about the world, about eternity.  And most importantly about His part in our salvation and eternal life.  It is that belief that really counts.  It is that belief that marks us as true believers, as true followers, of His.  Anything short of that and we're bound to 'sink in the water' as we attempt to pursue Him.

In the Gospel of John, chapter 4, we note that the Centurion was asking Jesus for a miracle (vs. 47).  He believed in miracles for he had likely heard that this man Jesus performed one at the wedding in Cana.  But as Jesus talked to him and told him to go home for his son would live, the Centurion believed in Jesus' words, and did as told (vs. 51).  And finally, the text says he believed once more (vs. 53), but in what?  This was no longer about believing in miracles, or even in Jesus' words -- this was about believing in Jesus Himself, as the very Son of God.  He became a true Jesus follower and his life changed drastically.  May it be so with us.

CALIFORNIA PARENTS -- FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR CHILDREN -- STOP THIS LEGISLATION

THINGS are really heating up in the California legislature as this bill goes forward. The live and let live philosophy adopted by most heterosexuals in the country is creating a situation that will eventually come back to harm our society, if it hasn't already.

If you go to church in California, where's your church and your pastoral staff on this? And what are they doing about it? Or are we all just too worried about loosing our privilege of claiming tax credits for our charitable donations?

Come on people, mankind is burning in many ways -- we can't just go on living and letting others do their thing -- it's too small a world. We will be impacted.
