Musings as of . . . late Monday night Feb. 28th.

#1. Mary T. Lederleiter, in her book, Cross-Cultural Partnerships: Navigating the Complexities of Money and Mission, IVP Books, Illiniois, 2010:

"Remember the big picture.
You are working to help build the kingdom of God.
God's purposes will not be advanced if you lose your temper
and bring shame upon yourself and others."
Need I say more to me or to you.

#2. Muamma Gaddafi:  As late as 1 p.m.  EST, the BBC reported this breaking news: "Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi tells the BBC all Libyans love him and would die to protect him, during an interview in Tripoli."   Visions of Grandeur for sure and somehow the ability to look out across the scene and be totally blinded to what the truth is.

#3. Somalia:  Given the recent breaking news from FoxNews: "Danish foreign ministry reports Somali pirates seized yacht in Indian Ocean with 7 Danes aboard, including 3 children."  This is after they recently killed 4 Americans, but also suffered heavy losses themselves.  I said and asked, "Surely, it's time for some elevated action.  What do others think?"  Some agreed and some asked what I would recommend.  Here's my reply . . .

"I think you can do one of two things: Put more military escorts on the ocean -- it would be good to have "ally" ships around there anyway; secondly, you can resolve to move in and stabilize Somalia. Yes, there will be a cost, but from what I have read, the people want to be freed from the situation they are now in and the danger they present to the world. They want to get ahead."

SO. would do you think now?  Or do we just let this piracy go on?

That's it for tonight.  Keep on musing and sharing your thoughts.  Tomorrow starts a new month.

And Just How Do Americans Feel About Illegal Immigration Now?

Thanks to Ethics Newsline, we have some interesting data from a recent survey on how Americans feel about Illegal Immigration.    About 82% (when you add up the top four biggest concerns) have a problem with illegal immigration in the U.S.  About 7% have no concerns.  Yet the B.O. administration doesn't seem to care about the majority.   You'll want to read the actual nature of the concerns.  And then figure out why B.O. doesn't care?  (If you do, let the rest of us know.)

Please pass this on to others who may find it interesting.

The Birds Are Going To War -- New mini drones for the U.S.

For those of you that are more technically inclined and wondering what the future looks like for spying on one's enemies, you may be interested in this new micro-drone commissioned by the U.S. for spying purposes.

Of course, God doesn't need any such technology -- He can see everywhere anytime (and without two AA batteries as required by this latest drone). But isn't it amazing that we're using God's technology (the new drone is based on the science of a hummingbird) to help us see better.

Here's the article complete with video. Enjoy and then share it on with others. Always welcome your comments.

As Rebels Get Close to Tripoli, Are They Moving Towards Disaster?

There is no doubt that Gadhafi's days are limited. More and more of the world seems to be against him. The only trouble is that he has sworn he will fight to his last drop of blood -- and even the blood of his military units (about 6,000) and that means the blood of some or many of the protesters. Gadhafi has also said he will turn Libya into a field of fires. Not sure what that may mean, though. Will he set fire to his oil fields?

All this remains to be seen in the next few days, or more likely hours. We are witnessing major changes in the balance of the world these past few weeks. It is difficult to stay on top of all the news -- the protests for freedom; the calls for Islamic rule; the struggles with economies all over; and the messes that many governments are in financially, socially, and morally -- it is hard to be aware of all this and not wonder what is going on in God's Economy and mind.

Interestingly enough, our guest speaker at church today, Dr. Jonathan Griffiths from the U.K. gave us some wonderful teaching from the 45th Psalm. I'm convinced God is continuing to call His Bride (members of His Church, His Body) to a wedding feast and celebrating with them in a way that will make any royal wedding here on earth pale terribly in comparison. And all this upheaval in the world today is just a lead-in to the setting up of His eternal Kingdom.

In the meantime, take a look at what is going on right now in Libya and be ready for the fall of Gadhafi. But we'd also do well to be thinking about the fact that one day, our own end or rule on earth (like Saddam Hussein's, like Mubarak's, like Gadhafi's now, and so on) will come and we'll have to deal with God at our own judgment. Those that are committed to Him, will be judged positively to an eternal life reigning with Him.  Something else to think about.

What do you think? Do these things start on their own or is there a bigger body instigating all the protests systematically? It's amazing that all these nation states in the last month or more have all of a sudden just woken up and said this is the year of revolution. But what do you think?

Maybe it is time for Catholics and Protestants (including Evangelicals), along with other like-minded groups and faiths, to join forces on this issue and demand we be "represented" accordingly by our government.   I know this isn't much help, but my understanding is that abortion in Islam is at worse allowed up to the point of four months from conception.

County clerk launches defense of Prop 8 traditional marriage

This article brings you up to date on what is going on in the political and GLBT and religious forums of the United States. It shows you how corrupt and blind people can be to laws and how they misuse their positions to bring about the change they want -- check out what U.S. District Court judge, Vaugh Walker, an open homosexual, does and says about this situation.

This is an excellent example of how the legal and political system in the U.S. is broken and will bring the people into total captivity by others who see the failure and step in to rule. Of course, it is broken because they have lost their Morality Compass.

Take a look at the mess, have a good laugh, get down on your knees and pray, and pass this blog on to others who may do likewise.

The Rest of the Future Brought to You by CanadianBusiness

We were taking you through eight categories or areas that CanadianBusiness magazine (March 14, 2011) made some predictions about concerning your future.   (See an earlier blog.)  Now on with the rest of the story:

D. On Water and Thirst: Watch Water Standard -- they build desalination ships that produce fresh water with little environmental impact and less energy than shore-based facilities needed; and watch Clearford Industries from Ottawa -- this company improves waste water reclamation by offering an innovative sewer architecture that separates solids before effluent streams hit treatment plants.

E. On Hunger: CanadianBusiness suggests we watch Nelson and Pade from Wisconsin -- it makes aquaponics systems that allow fish and plants to grow together in a soilless, mutually sustaining environment; and watch Plant Impact from the U.K. -- they're developing environmentally friendly technologies that boost crop nutrition and health while improving yields.   And watch science bring farming indoors as we run out of arable lands.

F.  On Videogaming and Business: Companies will work hard to add rewards and levels to all aspects of your daily life to make them more fun and at the same time more addictive.  Buyer beware.  They'll continue bridging the online world with games.  Watch what the restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings will be doing to get people involved; take a look at Groupon.com if you haven't already; clothing retailer Moxsie is allowing followers to follow designer meetings by Twitter and is giving points for their input; and watch Microsoft Office with a downloadable add-on (Ribbon Hero) that helps users learn the program's features using challenges and points, and it's integrated with Facebook so you can show-off and compete with friends.   And by the way, did you know that FB's Farmville now has 70 million people (I think that's what they are) addicted to watering virtual crops.  Insanity.

G.  On the Old (Aged): The big news here is remote health monitoring that will, according to CB, help keep seniors in their homes, and costs of care from skyrocketing.  Here are the companies to watch in this category:  Proteus Biomedical (U.S.) -- developing 'smart' pills embedded with sensors to record how one responds to medication and help ensure seniors take pills in proper dosages; Fitbit will track physical fitness including how long it takes to fall asleep, show the data on charts and predict trends for the user; Entra Health Systems makes a Bluetooth-enabled blood glucose monitor that sends data to a mobile device and reminds you when to take a reading; Sensiotec out of Atlanta makes a bed (for hospitals) that records vital signs through the mattress, checks for movement to prevent bedsores, and notifies staff via mobile alerts; and Intel is researching apps that track ones moods and emotional health and send you prompts with stress reduction tips.

H.  On Patience about the Future: CB has identified a problem, though, as great as all these above innovations sound.  They think we've "entered an innovation trough, at least in things that really matter."  (I'll let you read the details on their thinking there when you get a chance to read the actual magazine.)

In the meantime, you now know what may lie ahead in your future -- or at least, as part of your hospital bed when you're next in the hospital.   Speaking of that, I've got a visit there coming up real soon -- so I'll do some scouting for you.   Cheers.

Enjoy the future and pass this blog on to others that may benefit from it.

One Magazine Has Seen The Future and We Share it With You . . .

I normally don't recommend Canadian Magazines (especially those owned by the Rogers empire) but I must admit the latest issue of CanadianBusiness (CB, March 14, 2011) is one of the most interesting the magazine has had in a long time.

For starters, I think every investor should read their excellent article on China and Its Future -- its not what we're all afraid it may be.  But it's something we should all be afraid of.   Enough said, just find a copy of CB's latest issue.

Now, to the other "FUTURES" in our life -- and I don't mean "futures" as in "futures contract as defined in Wikipedia, "in finance, a futures contract is a standardized contract between two parties to buy or sell a specified asset (e.g. oranges, oil, gold) of standardized quantity and quality at a specified future date at a price agreed today (the futures price)."   No, I'm talking about what's in the future of our lives.   CB's Special Report is well worth looking at.  The report is 13 pages long and the material is broken down into eight major categories.   Let me give you just a few highlights:

A. On Automation: It suggests you watch the player Quanser, a Toronto-area firm replicating the sense of touch through mechanical vibration; watch Dreambots, the Israeli maker of WheeMe massage robot with rubber wheels that massage you and sensors that keep it from falling off the patient's back; and watch Ilshim Global with its Windoro window-cleaning robot, using parts that work on both sides of a window at the same time with the help of magnets.

B. On Mobile communications: Watch the Dutch Layar that transforms a phone camera viewer into a local business portal by just pointing it down the block; and watch U.K. grocery chain Tesco with an app that allows users to generate shopping lists by scanning product ba codes and organizing them by store layout.

C. On the earth's Far North: Watch Arcelormittal, the steel giant that aims to become the first iron-ore mine in the Arctic with a seaport and railroad cost $4B; watch the Norwegian Hydra Tidal group that started testing its floating power plant north of the Arctic Circle that generates power from tides; and watch NTCL, the Inuit-owned shipping company that is fielding more inquiries about export shipments via the Arctic from Asia and elsewhere.

That's it for part one of this topic.  Stay tune for blog two later on today or tomorrow.

An Article on the Middle East B.O. Does Not Want You To Read

I will restrain again from using that famous quote, "I told you so." Even though that's the truth, mankind's human nature is such that they normally do not believe their own prophets, let alone someone who claims not to be one, but only an observer of the present, a 'heeder' of the past, and a believer in what the Scriptures say about the future.

So your humble researcher gladly passes you on to other sources that are much more influential than I am. Take it from them. This is the way things really are in the Middle East and B.O. and his Ally Friends are too busy to wory about the truth. They're looking at their closets and trying to figure out their wardrobe for tomorrow night's Oscars. (Oh wait, don't they have dozens of servants to do that for them? My bad.)

Another Chistian Kidnapping in North Sudan

And the officials are doing very little. One commentator on a separate website suggested that there's a reason for this: the officials actually read the same Qur'an as the kidnappers. Joseph Sees Benjamin -- Genesis 43:16-17

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to his house steward, “Bring the men into the house, and slay an animal and make ready; for the men are to dine with me at noon.”  So the man did as Joseph said, and bought the men to Joseph’s house.

Jacob’s sons including Benjamin have returned to Egypt and stand before the Egyptian in charge of selling them food, not knowing it was their brother Joseph.  There is no record of any words being exchanged between them at this time.  Joseph seeing his younger brother, the only other son of his beloved mother Rachel, simply spoke to his house steward and instructed him to take them all to his house for they were going to eat with him there at noon that day.  Can you imagine the thoughts going through the head of each one of the bothers as they stood before this Egyptian who seemed to just ignore them.  What was this all about?

And Joseph did not stop there in his instructions to his steward.  He ordered that the steward slay an animal and make the necessary preparations for a special meal.  When the brothers finally figured out what was about to happen, they were stunned.  Was this really happening?  Was it a trap of some kind?   In no time, they found themselves in Joseph’s house.

Have you ever been in similar circumstances?  I mean really being so pleasantly surprised by what was going on instead of all the things that you really deserved to happen and you knew someone had every right to exercise over your shortcomings.

Once in a while when I’m in charge of my grandchildren when their parents are out or away, and one or more of them do something they know was wrong, I call them to me and they know they’re in trouble.  But as they approach me, I sit myself down, draw them close to me, put my arms around them, and tell them first how much I love them, then tell them why what they did was wrong, and how I was sorry they did it, that I hoped they had learned from their mistake, and would not do it again.  And then I say, “let’s go and play”.

I personally don’t remember that ever happening to me as a child.  Maybe it did or maybe it didn’t.  I don’t know if I learned from my parents or from my Heavenly Father.  I tend to think it is the latter because that is exactly how He deals with us, His children that He loves very much.

While we wait to see exactly how the story of Joseph and his brothers works out, I think the lesson for us today is to reflect on the times that God (and perhaps our loving parents if we were that fortunate) expressed His love towards us in a way that we did not deserve and to remember how relieved we were.  He did that when He died on the cross for our sins and He accepts us as righteous to be presented before Himself because of His Son’s death in our place, for our sins.

I think somehow we need to remember that as we reflect not only on our relationship with Him, but also on our relationship with others.  If God did that for us, do we not have a responsibility to accept and forgive others who may have wronged us?  I think we do.

The Company Men (2010)

My five year grandson uttered these words yesterday when he tried to show me a new "dance move" that I couldn't reproduce for the life of me: "Pappou, I am a professional. Don't worry if you can't do it."

Well, when it comes to critiquing movies, I am not a professional, so please don't decide about this movie on what I say. My job is simply to tell you that it may well be worth your while.

But first the "viewer and Christian beware" aspects: There is repeated profanity. There is about 2 seconds of nudity. There is one adulterous affair. But why am I still recommending this movie? Read on. . .

As a Human Resources Consultant (http://www.accordconsulting.com), I'm in the people business and this movie is definitely about people -- people who lose their jobs while others are exploiting the system for all it's worth without regard to those they kick out the door.

As an HR practitioner I have had to live through these experiences. I've watched men and women lose everything. I've watched them struggle. I've seen how it impacts peoples' spouses, their marriage, their children, relatives, and friends.

I've also seen how some who have a job do not have any clue how to deal with those that don't or who have just lost theirs. I've seen counselors not know how to handle it; I've even seen some pastors be of very little help in dealing with it.

That's why I recommend this movie to anyone who cares about people and who knows that "there but for the grace of God" goes you and I. This movie will help you rethink your relationship with those that lose their jobs (including the ones you love very much) and in case of you losing your job -- how to deal with those around you and yourself.

Recommended. Still in the theatres, but soon coming to a DVD store near you.

Enjoy and pass this on to others that may benefit.

Religion in the Media coverage doubles … to 2%

Is it possible that in our secularized western society we don't take religion seriously enough (see the data on media coverage)?

It seems to me that for those "movements" that appear to be making global gains politically -- (if judged by support by the people whether it's to overturn that devil America or gain their freedom (as in Egypt or Libya)) -- it seems to me these are the movements that consider elections, politics, foreign affairs, diplomacy, culture and economy, etc. -- all to be part and parcel of their "religious beliefs".

Meanwhile, we do everything we can to keep religion out of all these things in the West. We're way above religion. Well, maybe -- and maybe not. One thing is for sure -- if we keep thinking that way, we won't have to worry about our western faiths -- they'll all be driven underground in due time -- by that other "religion".

Please share this with others that may benefit.

2nd Generation immigrants earn less than first.

This is very interesting research data. They say it defies the old adage that "children of immigrants succeed economically in a way that makes them indistinguishable from" nationals.

They're now finding that is not the case as it was several decades ago when European immigrants and their children did as well as those actually born here in North America.

Well, let me suggest that there may well be several reasons for that:
1. Times have changed.  Economies have changed.
2. A country like ours cannot keep on taking immigrants and not see any negative consequence.
3. The cultural sources and geographical areas from which more and more immigrants are coming to our country these days is not the same as it was -- the fact remains that we have indeed opened our gates to cultures that are more differentiated than our own, thus causing an integration or simulation problem once they get here.
4. Given number 3, it is human nature (although morally wrong) for nationals to exhibit more discrimination against those that are not as similar as they are.
5. There may also be a backlash from the fact that immigrants have done as well as they have in the decades past and now nationals are more guarded in how they facilitate or sustain such outcome.

I believe this is one further proof that not only has multi-culturalism failed in Europe and the U.K. in particular, but it also failing on this side of the Atlantic (or Pacific, depending on where you're standing).

But I'm sure you have your own thoughts on this and we'd be glad to have you comment on it. In the meantime, read the attached link and share this blog with others that you believe may benefit from it. Thanks to the Globe and Mail.

Canada is going in the 'right' direction, except for our . . .

For some 'unknown' reason, Canadian voters seem to be leaning towards the 'right' -- conservatism. That's true nationally, it's true in Ontario (normally a liberal province federally and often locally). It's true of males and females, and it's true of adult voters with up to college/technical education (or less).

The only place it is not true is in the group with 'university' education. That should tell us something about what kind of philosophies people are learning there and from whom -- the liberals, the socialists, and the like. If not, how would you explain the data as provided by very liberal media source.

Canada's RCMP takes on Polygamy Group in B.C. again due to Evidence on child bride traffic to U.S.

This won't go away and rightly so.   Of course, the stakes are now even higher with many Muslims in Canada watching this situation closely for their own purposes.  What is decided here will have a great impact on how we react to Islamic demands for permitting polygamy among Muslims in Canada and elsewhere in the future.

Please get informed, and pray about this situation.  Then share this with others in your network.

Abortion and Blacks and Liberals and Freedom and Us

I am indeed ticked again.    Let me give you the background.  An association buys, as part of a national campaign, billboard space.  The billboard agency approves the advertisement which basically says, "the most danger place for an African American is in the womb."   The connection is obvious.  It points to the very high incidence of abortion among Blacks in America and is part of an anti-abortion campaign.  One of these billboards is in New York City.  Now, let's see what takes place next.

It so happens the New York billboard is on a building where there's a restaurant.  The staff complain they are being harassed by patrons who are against the billboard's message.   Really?  Why would a server be harassed because of a paid advertisement on their building?   I thought America was a free country.  Wrong again.

In addition, the agency hears there's going to be a protest by those against the message in the ad.  (That was scheduled for today.)  Well, yesterday they decide that both these situations raise concerns about "public safety" and down comes the ad.   Wait a minute.  Somebody paid for that advertisement.  It's perfectly legal and they had a deal.   If there's some public safety issues, that's why we have thousands of NYC police officers.  But no, the billboard ad comes down.

Before you go to the link below (and I recommend you do and watch the short video therein too), let me ask you one question:  Suppose for a moment that the ad was a legitimate legal advertisement for the gay and lesbian lifestyle or about "free information on, and discount rates for, abortion".   And this time the conservatives threaten to protest and bugged the servers in the restaurant about the ad.  Suppose that and then answer this question:  Would the ad come down?  No.   Would police be called on to control the protesters?  Yes.

So, what's wrong with this picture, folks?   Are you angry yet?  I hope so.  Because this is the new America.    And now it's my turn to start attaching some blame.  I blame ourselves -- the conservatists, and in particular the conservative Christians that can't get our act together to peacefully but in total unity get together and say "enough is enough".  Instead, we pick on each other and unless someone believes in exactly everything we believe in, we refuse to join hands with them and stand up for what is moral, what is right, what is godly.

So, there you have it.  I said.  I feel better.  But it doesn't change anything.  Denominational leaders you need to get your people off their butts, stop worrying about your ability to give out charitable tax receipts, and bring people together for the Truth and what is Moral.   You'll have a lot to answer for one day if you don't.

Please pass this blog on to others who may feel the same way.

Perfect Example of How The Networks Control the News

When someone in politics (read Dem.) does something that is in keeping with the really Dem. agenda, but doesn't sound or look good, the Networks (most of them) ignore it. It takes Fox and NewsBusters to expose it. This is a perfect example where a Dem. Congressman calls for unions to get a "little bloody" if they want to accomplish anything. Nice, very nice.

It seems to me based on the attached report from the link that the West is doing a lot of talking and taking limited action. Now there are more meeting scheduled for Monday (of course, we can't interfere with the Oscars on Sunday night now can we).

Meanwhile the B.O. and M.O. were all over the networks dancing away at their White House Black Month Motown Party last night and at least Glenn Beck was ticked off. You would be too if you saw the footage on CNN. Here's Beck's thoughts:

What the Leaders Are Saying, While Doing Nothing

Is it just me or does anyone else ever wonder what the point of being a super-power is when alone, or collectively with other super powers you can do nothing, or you choose to do nothing?

What good is saying the bloodshed and violence in Libya is outrageous and unacceptable, and it must be stopped -- while they do nothing to stop it -- and while we watch more and more get murdered on television?

Yes, I know that moving aggressively could backfire -- and I'm not suggesting that the U.S. attack Libya's regime. I am just pointing out how useless superpowers have really become in their ability to squash dictators who openly are willing to kill their subjects.

Or take the Somalian pirates for example -- young teenagers that hold the world and especially the merchant trade industry hostile. And no one can stop them. Why is that? How did we ever get to be so screwed up?  And how will we ever get out of this mess?

B.O.'s thinking on Same-Sex Marriage "Evolving" so won't fight it any longer.

Now U.S. president decides he can decide which laws the U.S. will defend and which ones it won't. When he doesn't like something (remember the Immigration laws and Arizona), he just doesn't defend them. In fact, he goes after those that do.

Well the same thing is happening with the definition of marriage as it currently stands in the law -- one man, one woman. But B.O. says he's thinking on this changing. Here's a quote from the Huffington Post article we've linked to:

"At a December news conference, in response to a reporters' question, Obama revealed that his position on gay marriage is 'constantly evolving.' He has opposed such marriages and supported instead civil unions for gay and lesbian couples. The president said such civil unions are his baseline - at this point, as he put it."

There you have it. Please remember this when it comes to the election in 2012. Somebody should start counting the days now. Please. And do pass this on to others. Just share the blog.

Would You Allow Muslim Services In Your Christian Church?

We have things so badly screwed up in our world that we are being criticized for not allowing Muslims to hold Islamic services in our House of Worship. Unbelievable.

Three questions:

1. Would Muslims allow Christians to hold services in their mosques? I doubt it. I couldn't even get into the Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem last year.  I wasn't a Muslim.

2.  Why are Muslims around the world destroying Christian churches?

3.  Would Democrats allow Replubicans to use their campaign offices in the off-shifts during an election campaign?

4.  Didn't Jesus throw money-changers out of the temple?  And they were only money-changers, not an organization that wants to conquer the world for its own religion and is prepared to destroy those that remain unbelievers.

Yet, we are being criticized by Muslims for not allowing our churches to be used by them.   Please, is there any sanity left in this world?    Never mind.   Here's the story.   Please share it by sharing this blog.

Now, of course, if you would share your church this way -- feel free to tell us about it.

Not sure where this is heading. It's as much fun to watch as one's stocks. But right now the average "approval ratings" for B.O. is down to 2.8%. (This may change by the time you get to this blog.) That is, 48.5 approve of B.O.'s performance as president while 45.7 do not. The difference is +2.8. Check out the chart. Sometimes doing "nothing of significance" for a long time is not the best way to improve one's ratings.

SEE SPOT? SPEND FOR SPOT! Here's the $$$ Scoop on the Pooch.

According to the current issue of Fortune Magazine (Feb. 28, 2011), we're (no, let me be more honest) -- you're -- spending $47.7 Billion dollars a year (2010) on the "pet industry".   That's up from $36.3 B in 2005 and $45.5 B in 2009.   Now, don't you feel better.

And how many of you is that exactly?   Well, the data indicates that 40% of U.S. households own a dog.
And 62% own at least some kind of pet.   While your expenses have grown, these percentages of owners have not changed.  (Is there any doubt with those costs?  But then again, you'd expect a decrease.)

Well, we don't normally write a lot of cheerful things about dog owners, so we wanted to bring you some.  Obviously, if I really wanted to start a civil war among the readers of this blog, I could ask the question, "how many out there really think that money is well spent given the needs in the world today and how many do not?"   But I won't do that, because I'm smart enough to know that I would be hunted down (using bloodhounds) and shot on sight.  I don't know which is more politically incorrect these days -- to challenge someone's thinking on religion, politics, or their to challenge their philosophy on animals?

Ah, but isn't this what makes North America go round and round and round -- and totally miss what is going on in the world (it's going to hell in a hand-basket in case you haven't been watching one of the Networks out there) and miss what the world is slowly doing to it (just keep an eye out for how your life is changing as radical Islam is coming to a town near you), while we're all out watching ball games, taking in movies, and going to one of the 22,000 events sanctioned by the American Kennel Club in the U.S. alone every year (including dog shows, hunt tests, agility trials, herding tests, and others).

But if you do want to write, I'll listen and I'll post it (unless it's obscene, etc.).
